Dive into wheel throwing with Monte Lupo!
About this Event
Monte Lupo's beginner wheel throwing class offers a hands-on introduction to the foundational techniques of pottery. Guiding beginners from raw clay to finished ceramic pieces. Students start by learning essential preparatory steps—such as balling up and wedging clay -- to moving on to centering, opening, and pulling walls on the potter's wheel to shape cylinders, bowls, and cups. By week 2, you will have 2-3 successful pieces that will make it to onto the next week. On week 3, you will be introduced to trimming your pot, coloured slip application and carving. Our talented Monte Lupo Team will then fire and clear glaze your piece.
This class will run over 3 weeks from 12th June to 26th June 2027 from 9am-12pm

WEEK 1 | Saturday 12th June | 9am-12pm
You will be guided through the process of wheel throwing. From balling up clay, to creating cylindars, to shaping the clay. This day will be full of mishaps and disasters! That's the fun part! WEEK 2 | Saturday 19th May | 9am-12
This week is when it gets serious. You will practice everything that is learned in week 1, and by the end of the class you will have 2-3 pieces that will be ready for trimming, slip decoration and carving for week 3. it could be bowls, mugs, vases, whatever you like!
WEEK 3 | Saturday 22nd May | 9am-12
This week you will learn how to trim on the wheel, apply coloured slips to your piece and learn carving techniques. At the end of week three, you will have pieces that will be fired and glazed by our talented staff at Monte Lupo.
